  • What’s the difference between a psychotherapist, a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specialising in mental health. They diagnose and treat mental illnesses primarily through medication, although some also provide psychotherapy. Their training is rooted in medicine, allowing them to prescribe psychiatric medication for conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

Psychology is a science, first and foremost, meaning "the study of the mind." It developed out of research and focuses on understanding mental processes and behaviour through systematic study and empirical evidence. Psychologists engage in research and assessments and apply therapeutic strategies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a form of psychotherapy. While psychology emphasises study, research efficacy, and diagnosis, psychologists also use psychotherapy in clinical settings to treat mental health conditions. However, they do not prescribe medication.

Psychotherapy, derived from the Greek words Psyche (soul) and Therapy (healing), means "therapy for the soul or mind." It developed primarily through working with emotional and psychological challenges, particularly trauma. Psychotherapy draws on multiple models of psychotherapy to develop a holistic approach to understanding and treating mental suffering.

Unlike psychology, which is rooted in scientific study, psychotherapy is a more experiential and relational process focused on healing, self-exploration, and emotional well-being. Psychotherapists come from various backgrounds, including counselling, social work, and psychology, and they use different therapeutic modalities.

  • What makes your approach to therapy unique or distinct?

I take a collaborative, non-judgmental approach to therapy, walking alongside you as we explore and address the deeper challenges you may face.

My life experiences as a parent, partner, artist, producer, traveller, and someone who has lived and worked in diverse cultures deeply inform my practice. This gives me a rich understanding of life’s complexities.

I integrate a wide array of therapeutic modalities tailored to your unique needs and temperament, blending person-centred, existential, somatic, and mindfulness-based techniques. Drawing from my background in yoga, meditation, and Eastern philosophy, I incorporate practices like breathwork and meditative techniques for a holistic and grounded approach. Together, we’ll explore what works best for you, creating a truly dynamic and personalised path forward.

  • How do you create a safe and supportive environment for your clients?

Fostering a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment is my top priority. I focus on building a genuine therapeutic relationship rooted in trust and collaboration. This connection can’t be rushed or faked, it emerges naturally when there’s mutual respect and honesty.

I bring my own embodied life experience into our work and believe in the power of humour to lighten even the heaviest moments. Your needs are always at the forefront of our sessions, and my goal is to support you in feeling heard, understood, and empowered to grow in ways that matter most to you.

  • What types of therapies or techniques do you specialize in?

I specialize in a broad range of therapeutic modalities, allowing me to tailor my approach to suit your specific needs. My areas of expertise include:

Person-centred therapy: Emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and a deep understanding of your experience.

Existential therapy: Exploring meaning, purpose, and the challenges of being human.

Emotionally focused therapy: Supporting emotional awareness and connection.

Mindfulness and somatic therapies: Grounding in the body and the present moment.

Transpersonal and yogic practices: Integrating spiritual and meditative elements for deeper transformation.

This integrated “toolbox” ensures we can adapt our approach to what feels most effective for you.

  • How do you tailor your services to meet the needs of diverse clients?

Every client’s story is unique, and I approach therapy with openness and curiosity, honouring your individual experience, background, and cultural context. Together, we’ll create a space where you feel seen and respected.

There’s no one-size-fits-all method or diagnostic hierarchy here. I prioritize collaboration and meet you where you are, working as equals to explore and address your needs in a way that resonates with you.

  • What can clients expect during their first session with you?

Our first session is all about building a strong foundation for your therapeutic journey. We’ll spend time getting to know each other, gathering background information, and discussing what brings you to therapy. Together, we’ll clarify your goals, outline the potential direction of our work, and establish collaborative agreements to ensure we’re aligned moving forward.

My aim is to create a space where you feel comfortable and confident about the process from the very beginning.
